The prime minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYRoM), Zoran Zaev, predicted a doubling of trade with Greece upon ratification of a landmark agreement to finally resolve the “name issue” still plaguing bilateral relations.
A closely watched referendum will take place in the one-time Yugoslav republic on Sunday, which if successful will shift the scale on the Greek side, where a Parliament majority must ratify the agreement when it is tabled.
“We estimate that trade between our two countries will double,” he said, in continuing to campaign in the land-locked country for a “yes” vote on Sunday.
He also repeated that ratification of the “Prespa Agreement” will open the doors to NATO and EU membership for the country, which will be called “Republic of North Macedonia” if the agreement comes into force.
