Greek households reduced overall spending in 2016 compared to 2015, with expenditures for food and housing nevertheless increasing.
The figures were released by the country’s independent statistics authority (EL.STAT).
Spending on education, usually involving tutorial services for secondary students and language classes, posted the biggest decrease.
Specifically, total monthly spending by households exceeded 5.71 billion euros, down 2.5 percent from 2015. Average household spending in Greece nearly reached 1,400 euros, also down 2 percent from 2015.
