IMFpresses for asset quality review, stress tests for Greek banks

International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesman Gerry Rice on Thursday confirmed that the Fund considers that new austerity measures in still bailout-dependent Greece may be possible.

He also said an Asset Quality Review is necessary for Greek banks as well as more stress tests for lenders in the country, echoing a standing position by the Fund’s leadership.

Finally, he again reminded that the IMF believes debt relief is necessary for the country.
