Greek marble industry almost entirely dependent on exports

Greece’s marble industry appears resilient even in the face of the ongoing recession and a more-or-less collapse in domestic demand, as exports continue to climb on the back of increased demand in developing markets.

According to a recent report by Infobank Hellastat, figures by a relevant sector association in Greece show that 1.6 million tons of marble were produced in 2014, an increase of 2.6 percent from 2013. The figure fell to 1.5 million tons in 2015.

Sales in 2014 are estimated to have reached 110 million euros, of which exports accounted for 104 million euros.
