Trade deficit down 3.1% in June 2016

Greece’s balance of trade deficit dropped by 3.1 percent in June, according to figures released on Friday by the semi-autonomous statistical bureau (EL.STAT).

The trade deficit reached 1.463 billion euros in June 2016, down from 1.509 billion euros in the corresponding month of 2015. If fuel or petroleum products are excluded, the same figure dropped by a marginal 0.5 percent, or 6.7 million euros in absolute terms.

Imports in June reached 3.563 billion euros, down 5.2 percent from the same month last year. Without fuel or petroleum products, the decrease was 2.7 percent.

On a more ominous note, exports were down 6.6 percent, yoy, reaching 2.1 billion in June 2016 from 2.248 billion in the corresponding month of 2015. Excluding fuel or petroleum products the drop was 4.5 percent, or 74.5 million euros in absolute terms.
