FinMin appears optimistic over upcoming 2nd review of Greek program

Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos appeared optimistic on Tuesday that the upcoming second review of the Greek program (third bailout) will “proceed very quickly”, speaking after a same-day Ecofin council.

Tsakalotos said there was no interest on the part of Athens to delay the process, “so we should not be considered suspect if there are delays,” he told reporters. He also expressed optimism that the second review, which is slated for the autumn, will be easier than the first.

Athens’ first review, as judged by institutional creditors, was delayed by six months in the first half of the year, taking a toll on the Greek economy by contributing to the continuation of a recession for 2016.
