Progress report by Covid-19 Observatory: Spike in average daily number of coronavirus cases in Greece; Rt index sill under 1

Greece recorded an increase in the average daily number of confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the ninth progress report by the Covid-19 Obervatory, and specifically for between July 8 and July 15.

As of Thursday, the daily average cited in the ninth report has reached 35, up 10 from the eighth such progress report.

At the same time, the epidemiological index Rt consistently remains under the benchmark of one, namely, at 0.4. The figure, according to experts, in comparison with the daily number of instances, means that the exposure has not been significantly affected by the percentage of contacts.

Additionally, the report points to an increasing number of cases which are “imported”, meaning arrivals from border entry points – with the majority in this sample being detected at the Promachomas border post with Bulgaria.

That development, in tandem with the epidemiological profile of the Balkan countries at present, caused Greek authorities to require the presentation of a negative PCR test by anyone entering Greece through the Promachomas post.
