Major Far East presence at Posidonia 2016

Chinese companies are first amongst national exhibitors at the 2016 biennial Posidonia 2016 maritime event in terms of demand for exhibition space and in the sheer number of participants, with several China-based shipyards, equipment manufacturers, shipping firms and port providers on hand in Piraeus.

The Far East will again mostly dominate this year’s exhibition, as the Korean and Japanese pavilions are also expected to be impressive, especially given the already heightened competition for new ship orders by builders in the three countries due to less demand.

Beyond traditional shipping centers likes Singapore, Hong Kong, Cyprus and Malta, this year’s Posidonia also welcomed the first ever national participation from land-locked Luxembourg, the Cluster Maritime Luxembourgeois.

Other noteworthy participations include Dubai Maritime City, the Vancouver International Maritime Centre and the Shanghai Maritime and Finance Excellence Centre.

The banking sector also appears resurgent, with National Bank of Greece, Saxo Bank and Deltec Bank again on hand in Piraeus after a long absence.

Organizers cited the participation of more than 80 stands with IT and communications providers as well.
