PM addresses ceremony marking construction of natgas pipeline in Thessaloniki

Work commenced on Tuesday for the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project, which is expected to transport Azeri natural gas through Greece and Albania to Italy via an underwater pipeline in the Adriatic Sea.

A relevant ceremony was held in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, which was attended by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and several top ministers.

In his comments, the Greek premier again forecast that recession-plagued Greece will return to growth in the second half of 2016, while saying that any agreement over Greek debt relief will also free up resources or investments in the country and increase employment.

The TAP project is a continuation of a pipeline that brings natural gas from the Caspian Sea country via Turkey to Greece.
