Mitsotakis: May 26 Europarliament elections a referendum for Tsipras gov’t

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday continued to play up the notion that the upcoming May 26 European Parliament elections in the country serve as a “referendum” for the current Tsipras government.

Riding high in the opinion polls, the center-right political leader said he’s also not focusing on the difference between the two parties, at least as far as the poll results are concerned, but rather that the “central criteria for people’s vote is the economy.”

“If he (PM Alexis Tsipras) believes he is favored by the pool of undecided voters, then he should declare national elections here and now, so the country is no longer burdened,” he emphasized.
