Greece’s commitment to International Law and respect for human rights in the management of migration flows was underlined by the Deputy Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Stefanos Gikas, in his meeting with the Assistant High Commissioner of the UN for Refugees, Ruvendrini Menikdiwela.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Director of the UNHCR Regional Office for Europe, Philippe Leclerc, the commitment to further strengthen Greece-UN cooperation in the management of migration flows was confirmed.
UNHCR expressed its gratitude to the Coast Guard, recognizing its dedication. Gikas emphasized that Greece has received the greatest impact from the migration crisis in the EU, while recalling that, in the last decade, the Coast Guard has saved over 260,000 human lives.
