Out-of-court mechanism: Settlements up 18.5% in August

Correspondingly, the initiation of new applications recorded a 10% increase compared to the corresponding month last year and a 45% increase from the year before

The out-of-court mechanism accelerated in August, although this month is not included in the deadlines for completing the procedure.

More specifically, last month 1,231 debt settlements were made, amounting to 317 million euros, an increase of 18.5% compared to the 1,039 settlements in August 2024 and an increase of 78% compared to the 691 settlements in August 2023.

Correspondingly, the initiation of new applications recorded a 10% increase compared to the corresponding month last year and a 45% increase from the year before.

Submissions also recorded a significantly higher number, recording an increase of 26% compared to the corresponding month last year and a 70% increase compared to the year before.

Specifically, in August 2025, 3,340 new applications and 2,896 submissions were made, compared to 3,031 applications and 2,338 submissions in the same month of 2024 and 2,305 applications and 1,715 submissions in 2023.

A total of 41,748 successful settlements for initial debts amounting to 13.56 billion euros have been recorded that were settled through the out-of-court mechanism by the end of August.

According to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the significant increase in all indicators reflects the substantial coverage of the middle class with the expansion of the inclusion criteria and all the improvements overall, which provide realistic regulatory proposals to households and businesses on a daily basis.
