ATM Withdrawals: Abolition of fees as of August 11

At the same time, a national maximum charge limit (cap) of 1.50 euros is being established for withdrawals made from third-party ATMs

The initiative of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, which completely abolishes charges for cash withdrawals from Greek bank ATMs, will come into effect on Monday, August 11.

At the same time, a national maximum charge limit (cap) of 1.50 euros is being established for withdrawals made from third-party ATMs.

The initiative provides for:

  • Zero commissions for cash withdrawals between all banks participating in the DIAS interbank system
  • Abolition of charges from third-party providers when there is a direct or indirect equity connection with the customer’s bank
  • Zero charges also from third-party providers in municipal communities where only one ATM operates
  • A cap of 1.50 euros for withdrawals from ATMs of third-party payment service providers throughout the country
  • Free balance inquiry for all cardholders, regardless of bank or ATM provider
  • A single charge of 0.50 euros for sending remittances via digital channels (web, mobile, internet banking) from third-party providers, at par with bank charges
  • Legislative guarantee that no bank can charge its customers for cash withdrawals

Pierrakakis: Intervention with a social dimension

The Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: “This is an intervention with a social dimension, which proves that the state responds directly to the needs of citizens. We are eliminating unfair and excessive charges, ensuring that every citizen, wherever they live, will have free access to their money.”
