PPC: Two new Battery Energy Storage Stations (BESS) under construction in Western Macedonia

The construction of "Melitis 1" and "Ptolemais 4" is expected to be completed within the year

The PPC Group is starting the construction of two new energy storage stations (BESS) in Western Macedonia.

This is the “Melitis 1” station, with a total installed capacity of 48 MW and a capacity of 96 MWh, which will be built near photovoltaic stations that the company is developing in Western Macedonia.

The second is “Ptolemais 4”, with a total installed capacity of 50 MW and a capacity of 100 MWh in the area of the former mines of Ptolemais.

Liquid-cooled battery arrays of innovative LFP technology will be used for the construction of the two stations, maximizing both the energy utilized and safety during operation.

The construction of “Melitis 1” and “Ptolemais 4” is expected to be completed within the year.

These stations aim to support the operation of the adjacent photovoltaic stations and contribute to the stability of the electricity system.

Through the operation of these plants, as well as future energy storage plants, the management of the production of Renewable Energy Sources plants is optimized, their contribution is maximized and the potential for electricity production from RES is fully utilized.

PPC Group plans 600 MW of BESS energy storage projects

PPC Group declared itself “faithful to the vision of delignitization and energy transition” and emphasized that it innovates, implementing projects that facilitate the management of electricity production and at the same time strengthen the overall shielding and resilience of the country’s electrical system.

Based on the investment plan for the three-year period 2025-2027, PPC Group plans the operation of 600 MW of BESS storage projects, which are currently at various stages of implementation in Greece and Southeastern Europe.
