Tsipras on EU’s decision regarding Brexit: ‘No national avoidance of difficulties easy or productive’

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras conveyed Athens’ “spin” on Friday after an EU Summit in Brussels regarding Brexit, referring to a “clear” result, and with indirect references to his own government’s “volte-face” after a contentious referendum in July 2015.

“The difficulty that Britain faces in its decision to leave the EU demonstrates the fact that no solution involving national entrenchment; no national avoidance of existing difficulties that we all face, collectively in the EU, is either easy or productive”.

In comments after the summit to Greek reporters, Tsipras said EU leaders could not risk endangering the legality of European parliament elections.

He added that London must now decide, by April 12, if it will participate in the May European election.
