The Ocean Investigator, one of two exploratory drilling ships operated by ExxonMobil, is expected to arrive in the port of Limassol on Cyprus this Wednesday, in order to conduct environmental studies in the island republic’s EEZ, and specifically in block 10.
According to a Cypriot government spokesman on Monday, Nicosia is will not be swayed by the current round of tension being cultivated by Ankara, adding the multinational energy giant’s surveying will proceed as planned.
Turkish warships prevented a vessel operated by Italian multinational ENI earlier this month from exploratory drilling in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Turkey, which illegally occupies one-third of Cyprus’ territory in the name of a Turkish Cypriot minority community, has been saber-rattling across the region over the recent period, on top of sending Turkish troops into the Syrian civil war quagmire.
