The number of registered start-ups in Elevate Greece reached 800 and the number of employees in these companies exceeds 7,000

The value of the Greek innovation system rose to 8.2 billion euros in 2022, while the number of registered start-ups in Elevate Greece reached 800 and the number of employees in these companies exceeds 7,000, the director of egg – enter grow go of Eurobank, Roula Bachtalia, said at the Delphi Economic Forum, held in collaboration with the Hellenic Initiative – Canada, the Hellenic-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Hellenic-Canadian Board of Trade.

She added that “the innovation ecosystem in Toronto resembles the Greek ecosystem, as we share the same values, we have common elements in business culture, and we perceive entrepreneurship and innovation in the same way. I believe that even if there is a great geographical distance, it is an interesting market for expansion, for new businesses taking their first steps in an international environment.”

It should be noted that 1,200 entrepreneurs were hosted by the EGG accelerator and 200 companies were born in the EGG hub. An example is Augmenta, an agro-technology company that, with the support of Eurobank and EGG throughout its journey from startup to scaleup and further development, was finally acquired this year by the Agnellifamily Group for 110 million dollars.

According to Bachtalia, “Greece has shown great growth potential in the field of innovative entrepreneurship and there is an important field of business activity and cooperation between the two innovation ecosystems of Greece and Canada.”
