The leading role of the port of Thessaloniki

The port has set itself the goal of being a vital part of the economic activity in the wider Balkan region via the major trans-European highway and rail networks.

The port of Thessaloniki is playing a leading role in the developments over the next period, as it constitutes an important freight hub in Southeast Europe, as well as a pole of attraction for international tourism.

With a total consolidated revenue of 82.2 million euros in 2022 compared to 77.9 million in 2021 – an increase of 5.6% – and a workforce of 488 employees, the port has set itself the goal of being a vital part of the economic activity in the wider Balkan region via the major trans-European highway and rail networks.

The port of Thessaloniki has already completed its investment plan (master plan), while the relevant presidential decree will be issued and the Strategic Environmental Impact Study will be completed.

One of the most important projects in progress is the expansion of the port infrastructure of the 6th pier, which aims to increase the number of containers handled from 600,000 TEUs to 2,200,000.
