The Fire Brigade's spokesperson Lt. Colonel Yiannis Artopios underlined that the conditions remain difficult

Ground teams, 5 aircraft and 5 helicopters operate on the island of Rhodes where the wildfire is raging for a third day.

In Western Attica, firefighters are scrambling to contain the large front. A total of 9 helicopters and 7 airplanes operate in the area, 4 of which were sent from France and Italy.

Meanwhile, the fire in Lefkohoma, Laconia, has abated.

However, the Fire Brigade’s spokesperson Lt. Colonel Yiannis Artopios underlined that the conditions remain difficult and “we are not complacent.”

The fire that first broke out last Monday in Kallithea, Loutraki, and then spread to other areas is contained and under control, the deputy local governor of Corinth, Haris Vytiniotis, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).

Regarding the damage caused by the fire, Vytiniotis said that “according to the first estimates, more than 1,500 hectares have been burnt, half of which are arable land and the other half forest land.”

Regarding the number of houses burnt, he noted that “based on initial estimates, the burnt houses appear to exceed 40, while there are also several other houses that have suffered minor damage.”
