The analysis of the exit polls of June 25 shows New Democracy’s lead in all age and professional categories, the inability of SYRIZA to appeal to other groups of people beyond the center-left and the left, and the dominance of the “Spartans” in the far-right vote.
According to the data gathered from the joint exit poll organized by the polling companies, New Democracy achieved its highest percentages once again in the older age groups, while it also recorded high percentages among the young. In particular, people aged 55 and over voted for New Democracy at a rate of 47%, i.e. 6.5 percentage points more than the general rate of New Democracy (40.5%).
In this age category, SYRIZA moved within the limits of the general rate with 17.9%.
PASOK-Change Movement achieved its best performance among older people with 14.2%, i.e. almost 2.5 points more than its general percentage (11.9%). In the other age categories, New Democracy comfortably secured the first place but with lower performances compared to its general percentage.
It is worth noting that the supporters of the Spartans, supported by jailed neo-Nazi Ilias Kasidiaris, received the highest percentage in the ages of 25-34 year olds (8.2%) while Niki achieved the highest percentage in the ages 35-54 year olds (6%).
In terms of professions, New Democracy again confirmed its lead in pensioners with 49.7%, in housewives with 45.6%, in self-employed with 44.7% and in farmers/livestock breeders/fishermen with 42.6 %.
Higher performance than the other parties but lower than its general percentage was recorded by the New Democracy among public sector employees with 35.5%, among private sector employees with 35%, among the unemployed with 30.8% and students with 29.7%. SYRIZA achieved its best performance among the public sector employees with 21.5% and the worst among self-employed with 16% and farmers/livestock breeders/fishermen with 13.4% where it even lost second place to PASOK which achieved 13,7%.
It is worth noting that among the unemployed, the nationalist and far-right vote exceeded a total of 22% (Spartans 9.4%, Hellenic Solution 7% and Niki 6.3%).
