Greek stocks resume upward trend

The general index of the market rose 0.78% to close at 1,095.96 points, with the Large Cap index rising 1.04% and the Mid Cap index easing 0.24%.

Greek stocks ended higher on the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday led by banks and Coca-Cola HBC, resuming their upward trend after a few days of correction, but trading conditions remained thin for one more session. The general index of the market rose 0.78% to close at 1,095.96 points, with the Large Cap index rising 1.04% and the Mid Cap index easing 0.24%.

Turnover was 73.68 million euros in volume of 16,366,157 shares. Piraeus Bank (4.71%), Eurobank (3.97%), Alpha Bank (2.33%) and Coca Cola HBC (2.11%) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Athens Water (-3.52%), Sarantis (-2.88%) and Lamda Development (-2.51%) suffered losses. Among market sectors, Financial Services (4.69%) and Banks (2.66%) moved up, while Real Estate (-1.97%) and Industrial Products (-0.65%) moved down.

Alpha Bank and Piraeus Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 51 to 47 with another 16 issues unchanged. MIG (30%) and Sato (10.20%) were top gainers, while Kiriakoulis (-23.22%) and Progressive (-7.84%) were top losers.
