"The change of the energy mix in Greece, with the inclusion of renewable sources in a very large percentage, has changed the energy philosophy and has substantially upgraded our country," Gerapetritis said

“Greece, through targeted and coordinated efforts in recent years, has become a major energy hub, contributing decisively to national and European energy diversification and security,” Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis emphasized, speaking at an event of the Association of Retired Greek Diplomats entitled “Energy and the Southeast Mediterranean.”

As he said, the energy collaborations that are being developed, such as the electrical interconnections, GREGY with Egypt and GSI with Cyprus and Israel, as well as the activities of the giants Exxon and Chevron in our country, are indicative of Greece’s economic and geopolitical importance.

Strong regulatory factor

“In addition, the operation of natural gas storage facilities, such as the LNG terminal in Revithoussa and the Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU) in Alexandroupolis, create the conditions for our country to emerge as a strong regulatory factor in the energy landscape of the wider geographical area of the Southeastern Mediterranean.

The change of the energy mix in Greece, with the inclusion of renewable sources in a very large percentage, has changed the energy philosophy and has substantially upgraded our country,” Gerapetritis added.

The minister also spoke of a diplomatic upgrade, through which, in combination with the country’s geostrategic position and its leading role in global commercial shipping, Greece will contribute to the visionary plan of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), which aspires to be India’s gateway to Europe.
