9th Naftemporiki Shipping Conference: McKinsey survey on the impact of shipping on the Greek economy

The findings of McKinsey & Company and the Greek Shipowners' Association

The central role of Greek-owned ocean-going shipping, the largest in the world, in the global and domestic economy, will be highlighted, within the framework of the 9th Naftemporiki Shipping Conference.

On May 28, 2025, at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens – Nafsika Ballroom, Zampelas Apostolos, Partner, Leader of Shipping Practice, McKinsey & Company, will present all the findings of the research conducted in collaboration with the Union of Greek Shipowners, and which captures, among other things, the positive impact of Greek-owned shipping on the country’s economy.

It highlights a series of factors and actions that could substantially contribute not only to maintaining, but also further strengthening, increasing the domestic footprint of the sector by 4 billion euros, an increase of approximately 30% compared to current levels.

These interventions concern, among other things, the upgrading of fleet management services, the strengthening of infrastructure, digital transformation, the decarbonization of shipping, but also the development of specialized human resources.

The 9th Naftemporiki Shipping Conference will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.
