ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group participated with a dynamic presence and strategic vision in the DEFEA 2025 exhibition.
Its chairman and CEO, Panos Xenokostas, participated in the seminar entitled “National Ship: It can become a reality!”.
Xenokostas underlined the readiness of ONEX Group, in collaboration with Skaramangas Shipyards, to construct national warships with 70% Greek industrial participation and export orientation, strengthening the country’s defense self-sufficiency.
He stressed the importance of creating a modern shipbuilding entity, with know-how and infrastructure that meet international standards, while presenting the shipyards’ upgrade plan, so that by 2026 they can service ships up to 200,000 tons.
He also noted that the strategic goal is the transformation of Greece from a simple buyer to an equal partner in the shipbuilding sector, with an emphasis on the development of transnational defense partnerships that will utilize domestic shipbuilding capabilities, allowing the co-development and promotion of Greek ships in international markets.
At the same time, on May 8, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Association of Hellenic Shipyards and the Association of Hellenic Aerospace, Defense and Security Companies (EELEAA).
Xenokostas, as President of the Hellenic Shipyards Association, described the agreement as the beginning of a new national strategy, aiming at technological self-sufficiency, industrial reconstruction and extroversion of the Greek defense and shipbuilding industry.
The inauguration of the ONEX Shipyards & Technologies group pavilion took place on Tuesday, May 6, where the Group’s cutting-edge technologies were presented.
Development Minister, Takis Theodorikakos, honored the ONEX Group with his presence, cutting the ribbon of the inauguration, together with the President and CEO of ONEX and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Hellenic Shipyards, Panos Xenokostas.
