Thessaloniki welcomes leading representatives of the European port industry on May 8 and 9, as part of the 21st Annual European Ports Conference (ESPO Conference), hosted by the Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. at Makedonia Palace.
The conference, organized by the European Seaports Organization (ESPO), is the leading institutional event in the sector and brings together leading figures from the maritime and port industry every year. This year’s event focuses on the new European Union strategy for ports, in light of the developments taking shape from 2024 onwards, and highlights their role in strengthening Europe’s geo-economic position.
ESPO 2025 will be an important platform for dialogue on the future of European ports, focusing on the impact of recent political upheavals in Europe and the US and the need to adapt port infrastructure to the new conditions. The focus of the discussions will be:
- the recent macroeconomic performance of European ports,
- the key priorities for a competitive and sustainable port sector,
- investments in sustainability practices and energy transition,
- the role of ports in the evolving geopolitical environment.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the interactivity of the conference, with the “Port Executive Lounge” initiative, in which port CEOs will exchange views live on stage, commenting on the presentations and findings of the discussions.
