Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras reportedly expressed support for a “longer extension” in the Brexit process, namely, until March 2020, according to government sources a day after Wednesday’s EU summit meeting in Brussels.
The same sources said Tsipras told fellow European leaders that they must considered their historic and political responsibility in deciding on the issue, and not based on emotion. He added, according to the sources in Athens, that the EU has nothing to gain from a show of strength, rather the Union has been a venue for finding mutually position through consensus and flexibility.
In a related development, Bloomberg paid Tsipras a “back-handed compliment” on Thursday, in an article entitled “Expert on Reversing Referendums Says Brexit Can Also Be Stopped”.
“Tsipras knows a thing or two about annulling referendum results. He called a popular vote on a deal Greece was offered by its European partners in 2015 and campaigned against it. He won the plebiscite only to reverse course and accept the deal at an all-night summit in Brussels,” the article, bylined by Nikos Chrysoloras, noted.
