Recovery of car sales in Europe, including Greece

In Greece, new registrations were up 13.8% last month compared to a year earlier.

Car sales in Europe accelerated in the first seven months of the year after the low levels recorded during the pandemic period. However, sales remain far from the performance of 2019.
According to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) in July 2023, sales in the European Union increased by 15.2% to 851,156 vehicles, with all major markets showing strong performance. It was the 12th consecutive month of sales growth.

In Greece, new registrations were up 13.8% last month compared to a year earlier.

In total, in the seven-month period, the new registrations in the EU increased 17.6% to 6.3 million vehicles. However, they remain 22% lower than pre-pandemic levels. In Spain sales increased by almost 22%, in Italy by almost 21%, in France by 15.8% and in Germany by 13.6%.

In July the share of electric vehicles increased to 13.6% from 9.8% in the corresponding month of 2022. Sales of new electric cars increased by 60.6% to 115,971 vehicles. In Germany they were up by 68.9%, in France by 32.4%, while in Belgium they made a spectacular jump of 235.9%. In Greece, sales of electric vehicles increased last month by 152% to 573 vehicles.
