Well-preserved head of Hermes uncovered during construction works in central Athens

Sewer works construction in central Athens on Friday turned up an almost pristine marble Hermes head, believed to be part of a Herma column, or statue with a head upon a square pillar.

The magnificent find was located 1.3 meters below the road surface on Aiolou street (No. 25) and outside the Church of St. Irene.
