Energean: Confirmatory drilling for natural gas in Morocco in Q3

Energean has already paid 10 million US dollars to Chariot Limited.

Energean’s confirmatory drilling in the natural gas field offshore Morocco in the Atlantic has been planned for the third quarter of the year, based on the lease agreement of the Stena Forth floating drilling rig signed with Stena Drilling Limited.

Energean signed the contract following the formal agreement to acquire the role of administrator as well as percentages 45% and 37% respectively in the Lixus and Risanna licenses, in which Chariot Limited and ONIM, the National Hydrocarbons Office and Minerals of Morocco, participate.

Energean has already paid 10 million US dollars to Chariot Limited.

The agreement includes the development of the Anchois field, which boasts 18 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and is located close to infrastructure for the supply of natural gas to the Moroccan market, but also to international markets.

Confirmatory drilling also targets an additional 11 billion cubic meters of prospective resources that will be exploited through the development of Anchois.

“We are excited to start operating in Morocco, where we hope to repeat our previous successes in the Mediterranean: boost domestic production, help meet growing domestic demand, with the prospect of exporting excess quantities, and facilitate both security in energy planning as well as the reduction of carbon use in the long term,” said Mathios Rigas, CEO of the Energean group, upon the conclusion of the agreement.
