The course of implementation of MYTILINEOS’ 1.16 billion euro “green” investment in Alberta, Canada, which concerns the acquisition of a photovoltaic portfolio with a total capacity of 1.14 GW from Westbridge Renewable Energy, dominated the contacts held between the president and CEO of the Greek company Evangelos Mytilineos and high-ranking government officials.

According to “Naftemporiki” sources, Mytilineos met with the Premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Brian Jean, and the Minister of Affordability and Utilities, Nathan Neudorf. The head of MYTILINEOS also met with Alberta’s Minister of Education, Dimitris Nikolaidis.

Last June, MYTILINEOS announced that the transaction would be completed with the purchase of the shares of Westbridge’s five special purpose vehicle (SPV) subsidiaries that develop an equal number of photovoltaic projects namely Georgetown and Sunnynook with a capacity of 280 MW each, Dolcy with a capacity of 200 MW , 300 MW Eastervale and 225 MW Red Willow.

The highest maturity is shown by the first two projects and the sale of the Georgetown project was announced at the end of December.

Based on the agreed deal, MYTILINEOS paid 32.5 million euros to Westbridge, while the remaining amount for Georgetown will be paid once the project is in commercial operation.

The remaining projects in the portfolio are at an advanced stage of development and are expected to be built in phases during 2026-2027. Upon completion, the projects are estimated to generate 2.1 terawatt hours (TWh) of “green” energy each year that could meet the needs of 200,000 households annually.
