Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected in Istanbul on Feb. 5 for an official visit to Turkey, according to diplomatic sources in Athens on Tuesday.

Tsipras had been invited to the neighboring country by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the UN general assembly last September in New York City.

Diplomatic sources that spoke to “N” said the date will be fixed by the end of the week, with an official itinerary also announced.

In a related development, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Tuesday extended his congratulations to new Greek defense minister Evangelos Apostolakis, while at the same time extending an invitation to the latter to also visit Turkey, sources quoted by the Turkish news agency Anadolu said.
