New business registrations increased by 4.5 percent over the first nine-month period of 2019, a development that was also accompanied by a significant decrease in the rate of annual closures or the cessation of self-employment, which fell by 38 percent from corresponding period of 2017.
Specifically, over the Jan-Sep 2018 period, 24,586 new business and corporate entities were registered, when the same figure over the first nine-months of 2017 was 23,553.
In terms of business closures or the cancellation of self-employed status, 12,943 were recorded, compared with 20,826 over the same period in 2017.
