Tsipras in Bratislava: Need for growth in Europe, not fiscal discipline

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday called for growth in Europe, and not just fiscal discipline, as he said, speaking after an informal summit in Bratislava.

The Greek premier told reporters that “most of the 27 EU leaders have understood that we are amid a major crisis, which is an existential crisis; that if we don’t change, we’ll be led to major impasses,” as he said.

Tsipras, who took advantage of the fact that the Greek crisis was not on the agenda of yet another EU summit, revealed that “different assessments” over specific measures to be implemented remain among EU leaders; nevertheless discussion over “a social agenda” has begun.

Referring to one of the main issues of the informal summit in the Slovakian capital, namely, the refugee / migrant crisis, he underlined the need for deal with the problem, but not via the reasoning of “whatever isn’t in my year doesn’t affect me”.
