The leftist Greek government has abruptly tacked on a 3.6-percent stamp duty to the monthly bonuses paid out to thousands of families with three or more minors under the age of 18.
The decrease in the monthly bonus, due to the imposition of the stamp duty, was the result of an obscure amendment tacked on to legislation passed through Parliament recently.
The monthly bonus is allocated to registered large nuclear families, and paid out by the Farmers’ Insurance Fund (OGA).
Beneficiaries first noticed the reduction in the bonus paid for July 2016.
