EU General Affairs Council calls for ‘options for appropriate measures’ against Turkey ‘without delay’

The EU’s General Affairs Council on Tuesday adopted enlargement conclusions on Turkey, inviting the European Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) to submit “options for appropriate measures” against Turkey “without delay”.

The development came as the Council called official Ankara’s refusal to conform with international law – a direct reference Turkey’s illegal in Cyprus’ EEZ.

The Union, in fact, said Turkey should refrain from such activity.

The conclusions came after an EU’s General Affairs Council, which convened in Luxembourg,

Last week, the leaders of the southern EU member-states support and solidarity to Cyprus and its sovereign rights within its EEZ.

The leaders met in Valletta, Malta on Friday, within the context of a MED7 Summit.
