Several main opposition New Democracy (ND) deputies have tabled a Parliament question over a case involving the alleged sexual harassment of female employees at the Venezuela embassy in 2013 by the then Venezuelan envoy to Athens.
The deputies also charged, in their question, that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was involved in a “cover-up” of the case when he was the main opposition leader at the time.
The ND deputies, all women, said Greek law specifically prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace.
Five former employees at the Venezuelan embassy have charged that former ambassador to Greece Franklin Ramon Gonzalez sexually harassed them on several occasions, both verbally and physically.
Press reports and the political opposition in the country this week charged that Tsipras and the leftist SYRIZA party were aware of the case in March 2013 and tried to cover-up the incidents by appealing to the Maduro government in Caracas.
