Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with US ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt at the former’s office in Parliament on Friday.
According to ND sources, the two men discussed bilateral issues as well as an agreement, signed off by the Tsipras government last week, to upgrade Greece’s fleet of US-made F-16 warplanes.
The same reports stated that Mitsotakis made it clear that he agrees, in principle, with the agreement, However, he expressed “serious reservations” over the process for implementing the upgrade program, while at the same time charging that the leftist-rightist coalition government has failed to brief the opposition over the matter.
The one-hour meeting was the third time in the last two months that Mitsotakis has met with Pyatt.
The ND leader later met with former prime minister and PASOK leader George Papandreou.
