Deportations of irregular migrants expected to pick up after Orthodox Easter

A total of 17 foreign nationals from Pakistan and North African countries were deported to Turkey on Tuesday, with vessels carrying the undocumented migrants from the islands of Chios and Lesvos back to Turkey.

Additionally, 13 Syrians will be flown from Mytilene airport, the capital city on the island of Lesvos (Lesbos), to Adana on Wednesday, as the group members reportedly want to take advantage of a relocation program signed between Turkey and the EU.

The number of irregular migrants set for deporation will increase after Orthodox Easter, following an appeals process by various third country nationals that applied recent for asylum when the EU-Turkey agreement was announced.
