Greek DM refers to prospect of Larissa base hosting ‘Global Hawk’ UAV detachment

Greek Defense Minister Evangelos Apostolakis this week referred to the prospect of the 110th combat wing, based in the central Greece city of Larissa, hosting the USAF’s “Global Hawk” UAV detachment.

Apostolakis, who shed his navy admiral’s uniform as the armed forces general staff chief a few months ago to don a minister’s dark suit, made the statement during a tour of the 1st army’s headquarters in the city.

The Hellenic Air Force base in Larissa is already home to NATO’s Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC 7).

Before referring to the Global Hawk prospect, the previously high-ranking military officer said “cooperation with our allies, and especially the United States, is at an excellent level.”
