New German FinMin Scholz holds first meeting with visiting Greek counterpart Tsakalotos

A first “introductory” meeting in Berlin on Friday between new German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz  and his Greek counterpart, Euclid Tsakalotos, was held in a positive climate and with an aim at achieving a “new relationship,” the German ministry’s official Twitter account noted.

The tweet, accompanied by a photo of the two men shaking hands, by the German side stated: “With good talks in a new strong partnership-federal @OlafScholz finance minister meets Greek finance minister Euclid Tsakalotos in Berlin.”

In an almost immediate “spin” back in Athens, and specifically by finance ministry sources, the reaction what that “there was an exchange of view on all issues of common interest … and European policy.” The same sources said talks by the two sides will continue.
