Labor center: Two well-known Evia resorts closing

Two well-known resorts in the large island of Evia – just off the eastern Greece mainland – will close for the 2016 season, the island labor center announced.

The state-sanctioned union umbrella group representing wage-earners claimed that the parent company that owns the Holidays in Evia and Eretria Village units cited borrowing liabilities, debts to the state social security fund and lack of a strategic investor in forcing the closing.

Eretria Village is listed as a four-star resort with 205 rooms, while the iconic Holidays in Evia is listed as a three-star resort with 334 rooms.

The labor center said the two units employ roughly 140 staff members.
