Strong 6.6R quake near Samos, Asia Minor coast; felt on Greek mainland

An earthquake that shook the greater Athens area early Friday afternoon for upwards of 10 seconds measured a strong 6.6 on the Richter scale, and was pinpointed near the eastern Aegean island of Samos )18 km N, NW of the isle) and the Asia Minor coast. The quake was recorded at 13.51 (11.51 GMT).
