PepsiCo closes last production unit in Greece

PepsiCo-HBH is the latest multinational to cease production operations in Greece, as a company announcement on Monday claimed that the closure of its last remaining unit aims to ensure the group’s competitiveness.

The company said the entire workforce will be laid off from the specific unit, some 60 full-time employees along with seasonal workers.

Nevertheless, Pepsico’s general director for central Europe and the Balkans, Christophe Guille, promised to place most of the workers in other companies that trade with the multinational, or in another Pepsico affiliate.  He also said a voluntary retirement package would be offered.

The last remaining Pepsico production unit in Greece operated at the Inofyta industrial site, due north of Athens proper.

Finally, the company said its retail sales in the country would be unaffected.
